• SHA was retained to develop and implement a fire extinguishment plan for the DSS Landfill.

• The fire involved 170,000 m³ of wood waste and roofing material.

• Potential failure of a major BC Gas pipeline presented an additional geotechnical challenge on this project.

 The fire was extinguished by:

• establishing fire guard trenches,

• digging up the burning product, and

• hauling it to lined cool down areas where it was soaked with water and Class A foam.
